Firstly, I was blown away by the author’s writing. I liked the pace and lyrical flow of the words. She has a poetic lilt to her phrasing which I find enjoyable in darker works. Her way of describing things is very visceral, raw. But at times, it was hard to understand at first what she was saying and I had to go back and reread a sentence a two or three times before being able to continue on. This might be an issue for some, so just be warned if you’re not a person who cares much for flowery writing.

Now with that out of the way, I have to admit that the subject matter in this story was rather twisted. **WARNING: SPOILERS**: Essentially, Dice is in a three-way relationship with Sin and her cousin. While he inhabits Pen’s body, he is able to “manifest” into his true self whenever Dice touches him. While this is happening, he and Dice are kissing and groping which, again, is disturbing when you remember Pen’s body is thrown into the mix. It made me reflect back to when Sam possessed Oda Mae and he/they had that sexy slow dance with Molly. Only while the situation in “Ghost” is a lot more palatable for a multitude of reasons, the one in Swoon is incredibly... strange. Gripping, but strange. I got past that quickly, but as the story developed, I grew more increasingly disturbed by the effect Sin was having on Dice and Pen’s relationship as well as with the rest of the town. The bit with the two boys going at it in explicit detail was like, whoa, this author just went there, and for me, I felt like that was great because I like when authors push my buttons and make me question my comfort zones. Others may not agree, so just fair warning to any adults who are interested in reading this book but aren’t fans of stories where teens are doing drugs, drinking, and essentially having orgies. This really is a great story though so if you can get past that, you’ll like it.

Other comments: This is not your average love story. It’s kind of a weird, slow burn with a lot of abstract obstacles in the way. At times, I forgot this was a love story and not pages from a pretentious wayward teen’s diary. Dice is the sort of person who secretly thinks she’s better than everyone even though she seems to lack a working moral compass herself. And her “attraction” to Sin comes off as fickle like how Romeo’s did with Juliet. Very baseless and more-so “lust at first sight” than a profound connection than I’d say the one between Buffy and Angel. And throughout the story, there are so many instances where I’d hoped Dice would snap out of it and really question why she “loved” Sin, instead she kept coming up with deluded excuses why she shouldn’t question it. Maybe that is the downfall of being a teenage girl, which was something I dealt with when I was younger and if this was the author’s intent than I applaud her. But I think there should have been more lasting tension between Pen and Dice, as their situation felt resolved too easily and too soon. And I think Dice needed to check herself a few times throughout the story, actually make an attempt to be a little less selfless and reasonable. But again, she’s a fickle teen only concerned about hormones. Can’t ask for much.

Overall, I enjoyed this story immensely for being dark and slightly paranormal, the beautiful writing, and the feelings it invoked, but reader beware of the mature/controversial content and that the author likes to overly describe things in abstract ways. And don’t be discouraged by the negative reviews. If you want to give this book a try, wait for it to go on sale. I got it on my Kindle for 99 cents which to me was a steal considering I really liked it. If you’re unsure, I wouldn’t recommend paying full price when you can get it on sale next time around through BookGorilla or BookBub subscriptions (:

I kind of liked it wasent great but it wasn`t terrible. More like 2.75 stars. I was totally lost on the last couple of chapters. They seemed rushed and all over the place. Was I the only one who didnt get what happened to Sin. In the end to be honest I dont regret getting this book because I wanted to judge for myself. That being said I will never read it again and I wish I would have paid less money for it.
I was really looking forward to this book. The cover looked cool and the description sounded pretty good, But only about 30 pages in i felt awkward. i definitely didn't feel like i was reading a YA book. I feel its okay to have some romance in a book but some of the details could have been left up to the imagination. I know its impossible to write a book that everyone loves, But i think that i should have been better prepared for what was in this book. Other than the sexual content i also found it hard to relate to any of the characters. all in all i would not read this book again nor would i suggest it.
Swoon is a story about Candice (Dice), Pen, Dice's cousin and a spirit from 1769 named Sinclair. Sinclair is back from the past to reek havic on the ancestors of the people who wrongfully put him to death. Sinclair (Sin) takes up residency in Pen's body. Once released by Dice, to stop her cousin from being pushed to dangerous behaiors, Sin starts to use the people of Swoon, Conneticut as puppets, forcing them to destroy themselves and each other.

This is a story that has a ton of drug use and casual sex. Otherwise the storyline has some potential. I finished the book and enjoyed the story but I felt confused about the first half because it took a long time to go anywhere. This was simply an ok book.

To say that this is bad is being kind.
Okay, to start, this book is way more dark than I thought it would be. When I read the synopsis, I thought Good idea! I want to read this book and figure out what happens!
After reading I can't believe I actually spent money on this.
So the middle thoughts So Dice smoked drugs because 'she wanted to be nice. I mean, who doesn't say no to drugs when they offer so nicely?. I hated Dice and Penelope. They both used guys (Mostly Penelope). And Sin? What the heck is his problem? He sucked. I can't even form into words what this book was.
Prediction This series will go nowhere. When I am in the store, I don't even like to look at Swear or Swoon.
Final Conclusion Sad excuse for a book.

Once I got past the fact that the lead characters' names were Dice and Sin (and realized the story wasn't about a lost night in Vegas), the story flowed along pretty well.

Warning about Swoon Of the YA books I've read recently, Swoon contains the most sex, drugs and rock n roll. (Well, not so much rock n roll...) Nothing that's explicit and nothing that most teens today aren't exposed to on TV every night, just more than your typical YA paranormal novel. You have been warned. Any-whoo...'

Swoon was a quick, easy read and discussed subjects that many YA paranormal books skirt around. 'I liked the leads (despite their nicknames) and Sin surely lived up to his name.

Swoon had its highpoints for sure. I liked the way it attempted to take a stereotypical WASP town and turn it on its head. I just couldn't get past that I've seen it done before (sometimes better) in Needful Things, The Witches of Eastwick and True Blood.

I liked Swoon, but I just wanted it to be better. I thought the premise was unique and had potential. Now that the story has been established in an okay way, I'm hoping that Swear (with its beautiful cover) will fufill the promise that Swoon held, but didn't quite live up to.
