This book is confusing. She doesn't want to be the typical trailer trash but makes questionable decisions. She's the strong I don't need a man type but can't say no to the other man who she claims to not want. She kisses one person and sleeps with his brother in the same night. Plus I didn't like her. Single hardworking mom or not she treated the hero horribly. She does nothing to make things right. It's all on him.

Trailer Park Heart edition by Rachel Higginson Literature Fiction eBooks Reviews

This was disappointing. The main characters were so unmotivated to change so the story advanced very slowly.

I also didn’t like how the main lead insulted her mom over and over in a myriad of small cutting snipes. It was actually shocking once you count the jibes. The irony is that she wanted to be cut some slack for not having everything for her kid, but did not give her mom any of the same courtesy. It was weird and (another) unattractive character trait.
In high school, Ruby Dawson worked hard so she could graduate and get out of her small town life. She grew up in a trailer park and her mother is a manager at the local strip club so Ruby didn't want the rumors and stereotypes to follow her to college. As for Levi Cole, she didn't want to have anything to do with him either. He was always around her, bothering her or embarrassing her in some fashion. Granted, he wasn't the worst of them because he seemed to enjoy teasing her but also never went too far with it. He grew up with wealth and privilege, was one of the popular boys in school, and did just as well academically as Ruby. So he is totally wrong for her in her mind that she doesn't entertain any of his advances. At a graduation party, Ruby decides to cross a few things off her bucket list, which then changes the trajectory of her life afterwards where she winds up not leaving town after all.

And seven years later, Levi Cole returns. He sees Ruby still working at the same diner and living in the same double wide mobile home with her mom and that she never went to college. This time Levi won't leave Ruby alone because he has a lot of questions that he wants answers to. This is unnerving to Ruby because she'd rather stay invisible, but Levi sees her so clearly that she hates how she can't hide from him. I loved Levi. He could be a bit demanding, but when it comes to dealing with Ruby, sometimes that is the only way to get through to her. As for Ruby, I loved her independence and strong will, but she had walls up so high and thick that it was hard for her to let her guard down and accept that other people cared about her and see past her reputation. And while Ruby cannot deny her attraction to Levi, she also knows that her secret is the one thing that could ruin everything between them. There are some charged scenes that really got the emotions flowing although this wasn't an emotionally heavy book and I enjoyed watching Ruby transform as a character slowly over time because Levi brought it out of her. Overall, this was on the lighter side with a healthy dose of angst and a feel good ending.
This is not the type of book I prefer. I usually like them gritty raw dirty and dark. There is a part of me that loves a book that appeals to my hopeless romantic side. Finding one of these books that I appreciate is difficult. There are a few authors that I have loved who do a great job with these -tear your heart out-type books. I usually find them boring or dislike the characters-often the female character. This book had all the feels for me. I seldom buy a book before it has several reviews. I bought this one based on the story and the cover. There is no steamy hot sex in this book which I like but I guess you could say it didn’t need it. That is saying a lot coming from me. Little Ruby Dawson had my heart-that seldom happens with the female characters is these types of book. Levi Cole has to be every woman’s dream. For 24 hrs I lived in this book I was sorry to see it end. I would send this author flowers if I had her address.
WOW. Wow. Wow. Wow. WOW.
I needed this book.

I needed a book to help me reconnect with my love of reading and this book did just that. I am going to be completely honest, I saw this book on Facebook, another blog I followed shared it. The cover SPOKE to me. The title was okay but the gorgeous cover hooked me. (Yea, sometimes I do judge books by their covers. I really do try to avoid it but sometimes some covers just speak to me!) I then read the blurb of the book and DONE. I bought this book immediately.

I LOVE books where a strong and independent woman is given a rough life and has to overcome all the obstacles in her way to succeed. I love seeing her push through these challenges, learn and grow. I also really enjoy getting the main character’s thoughts and perspective during these various challenges. Rachel Higginson does just that. She has created a captivating story where the main character, Ruby, has to get past all of the hurdles that life has thrown at her.

Ruby had a plan for how her life would be. She was going to do anything and everything to be better than what life was giving her. Growing up with a cold-hearted, distant mother in a trailer park set the tone for her life. She was labeled as “trailer trash” by her peers. She wanted more. She had the determination to prove everyone wrong and become someone she always wanted to be until…she made a mistake that jeopardizes everything.

And then there is Levi. The boy who grated at her nerves, would tease her constantly and would have a sexy grin on his face the whole time. He was unnerving and frustrating yet smoking hot.

Ruby thought she would get away from Levi, from the town she grew up in, from the trailer park life…well, she was wrong.

Besides the captivating storyline, the well-developed and complex main characters make this book great. They are relatable and easy to connect with. I also really enjoyed that the story is told through Ruby. I could feel her frustrations, nervousness, heartache and more.
This book is confusing. She doesn't want to be the typical trailer trash but makes questionable decisions. She's the strong I don't need a man type but can't say no to the other man who she claims to not want. She kisses one person and sleeps with his brother in the same night. Plus I didn't like her.
