There is an ever-growing amount of hype surrounding this book, and in my opinion it is well deserved. That being said, it is not going to be for everyone. Trying not to give anything away, in the end it winds up bordering more on horror than suspense, and some people will not appreciate that part of it. If you think you are okay with it though, I strongly suggest you check this out. Single-mom Louise has a strong flirtation with a man at a bar one night and winds up thinking that she may have found the one. Unfortunately, when she next goes to work she discovers that the man from the bar is her new boss, who also happens to have a wife. To complicate matters further, said wife bumps into her on the street and the 2 strike up an easy friendship. The boss, David, begins having an affair with Louise, while the wife, Adele, begins filling Louise in on just how far from perfect her marriage, and her husband, can be. Of course there is more going on here than meets the eye, and Louise finds herself wondering just what she has gotten herself into, even though she can't help but come back for more. The aforementioned polarizing ending left me pretty well stunned, and I found I could not stop thinking about it for around a day afterwards. Your mileage may vary, but I can't say I've read anything like this before, and strongly recommend you check out what is likely to be the perfectly-plotted shocker of the year.Tags : Behind Her Eyes: A Suspenseful Psychological Thriller [Sarah Pinborough, Anna Bentinck, Josie Dunn, Huw Parmenter, Bea Holland] on Amazon.com. *FREE* shipping on qualifying offers. Why is everyone talking about the ending of Sarah Pinborough's Behind Her Eyes? Louise is a single mom,Sarah Pinborough, Anna Bentinck, Josie Dunn, Huw Parmenter, Bea Holland,Behind Her Eyes: A Suspenseful Psychological Thriller,Macmillan Audio,1427282277,Mystery & Detective - General,Thrillers - Psychological,Audiobooks,Audiobooks.,FICTION Thrillers,Man-woman relationships,Psychological fiction,Psychological fiction.,Secretaries,Sex in the workplace,Single mothers,Spouses,Suspense fiction.,Thrillers (Fiction),Triangles (Interpersonal relations),430601 Flatiron Fiction Audio,AUDIO,ENGLISH MYSTERY & SUSPENSE FICTION,FICTION Mystery & Detective General,FICTION Psychological,FICTION Thrillers Psychological,Fiction,Fiction-Mystery & Detective,FictionThrillers - Psychological,General Adult,MysterySuspense,Psychological,Thrillers Domestic,Thrillers Suspense,United States, thriller audio books; psychological thrillers; domestic thriller; thriller; suspense; love triangle; love triangles; mystery thriller suspense; suspense books; thriller books; suspense novels; adventure books; thrillers; mysteries thrillers and suspense; best thrillers; top thrillers; adventure stories; audio book thrillers; thrilling audio books; audiobooks thrillers; thrillers audiobooks; top audio books; best audiobooks; thriller books on tape; audio books for adults,FICTION Mystery & Detective General,FICTION Psychological,FICTION Thrillers Psychological,FictionThrillers - Psychological,Psychological,Thrillers Domestic,Thrillers Suspense,English Mystery & Suspense Fiction,Fiction,MysterySuspense
Behind Her Eyes A Suspenseful Psychological Thriller Sarah Pinborough Anna Bentinck Josie Dunn Huw Parmenter Bea Holland 9781427282279 Books Reviews
This book was amazing. I really wasn't sure what I was getting into but early on it seemed like a thriller in the vein of Gone Girl and The Girl on the Train, etc. I had heard the comparisons made so I settled into it and enjoyed it quite a bit. Then, all of a sudden, toward the last quarter of the book, it transformed into a very different book. But what's wonderful about that is the creeping realization as you read nearer and nearer to the end that it has been *that kind of book* all along.
Pinborough's rendering of the story is flawless. There is no extraneous prose, not an overwrought paragraph, not a single misstep. Every move she makes with the writing in this book serves the story and the ending that, when you get to it, will leave you gobsmacked.
Reading BEHIND HER EYES is like witnessing a baffling, thrilling stage illusion...and Sarah Pinborough is one hell of a magician!
Then the let down. Three percent wrap-up took a five star story down to a three. It was a page-turner for sure, but wow, I’m still smarting that it ended so horribly and ridiculously. I wouldn’t even call it a surprise ending, I’d call it a stupid ending. Too bad - it had so much potential.
Overall, this was a decent book. The characters were intriguing and the story was engaging. The first half is suspenseful because you don't know what the heck is going on, but not in a frustrating way. In a way that makes you want to keep reading to figure out what's at hand. My biggest reason for only 3 stars is the main character, Louise. She's great until you get through a good portion of the book. Then she just becomes so weak and naive, I just found frustrating. I also struggled with this same frustration with the main character throughout Girl on the Train, which is why I liked that book but didn't love it. If you loved Girl on the Train, give this a try.
The book is good until the last 1/3. I feel like it's several hours of my life that I cannot get back which is not the feeling you want after finishing a read.
The characters start out as strong and solid, as well as believable. But the ending is so preposterous that I threw the book across the room. I am still mad about it!
I'm all over the place trying to decide what to rate this book.
On one hand, the ending shocked the crap out of me...and I'm not saying this in a braggart type way, but that rarely happens anymore. I consider myself fairly astute at predicting "twist" endings. For that reason alone, I feel this should at least be at least a 4 star book.
Having said that, the entire plot line relies completely on Louise's utter idiocy to make the story line work. And moronic characters are never fun...hence, a star deduction and a 3 star review.
But then again, I've never read anything quite like this book...there is some serious craziness happening here. Add a star.
However, the story drags a bit and gives large plot points away very early on in the story. Normally, that's a big no-no for me, but in this case, it didn't even matter! I was still blown away by the ending.
With a few tweaks, I really believe this could be a 5 star stunner...but at this point, I'm choosing 4 stars. And that's my final answer.
You think you know, but you don't know. When I finished the last sentence in the book I just sat there . . .slack-jawed. I could not believe what I just read. Not because the book was bad, quite on the contrary - it was because I am NEVER thrown off with suspense/murder mystery books. . . . .and I was completely thrown off. If you love books that give you a kick in the pants . .. then this book is for you!
I was so interested in the story until the astral projection stuff started turning up. It is not a suspense story, more of a horror/supernatural tale. It was well written and interesting up to that point but then it just became silly and unbelievable. Obviously the ending was even more of a twist but not a twist that could in any way be based on reality. I was extremely disappointed. If I wanted to read a story about astral projection I would have looked for one. This book is not a mystery. The mystery is why very few people are bothered by the false promise of this book.
